Legal highs are substances which produce the same, or similar effects, to illegal drugs such as cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis.
‘Legal highs’ cannot be sold for human consumption so they are often sold as bath salts, herbal incense or plant food to get round the law. The effects of these drugs vary, but they all have one thing in common – just because a substance is sold as ‘legal’, doesn’t mean that it is safe. It could mean that the authorities just haven’t got round to making it illegal yet.
Legal highs are not like medicines, you don’t get a list of ingredients, so you never know exactly what is in them, or what effect it will have on your body or mind.
